TON retires legacy Toncoin Bridge after 4 years

Following the successful deprecation of jUSDT, we’re officially retiring Toncoin Bridge.

Starting from May 10, 2025, users will no longer be able to bridge Toncoin from TON to Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain. All past transfers to these chains will remain claimable after this date.

Bridging Toncoin into TON will stay active for now, with a future sunset date to be announced.

Why we’re retiring the bridge

Toncoin Bridge played a vital role in TON’s early days—before centralized exchange (CEX) listings, decentralized finance (DeFi) on TON, and native USDT.

At the time, users who wanted to trade Toncoin only had one option: send it through TON Bridge to Ethereum or BNB Smart Chain, then use platforms like Uniswap or PancakeSwap to swap it for other tokens.

Even after CEX listings, the bridge remained the primary way to access decentralized exchanges (DEXs) before they launched on TON. Later, it became the gateway for wrapped assets like jUSDT.

But TON has since evolved.

Today, TON is integrated with world-class cross-chain platforms like LayerZero, Stargate, Symbiosis, and Rhino.fi. With USDt-TON, thriving DEXs, and a growing DeFi ecosystem, users no longer need to exit the network to use their assets.

Sunsetting the bridge:

  • Improves user safety by retiring older infrastructure
  • Encourages adoption of modern, scalable cross-chain tools
  • Reflects TON’s evolution into a more mature, self-sustaining ecosystem

What’s next

Bridge oracles will begin withdrawing their staked TON as the service winds down, though operations will continue securely.

A separate announcement will follow regarding the deprecation of token transfers, as newer cross-chain technologies take over.

Thank you to everyone who used the bridge and helped TON grow during its earliest days. The next chapter is here—faster, safer, and more connected than ever.
